TAB Betting Blog: Don't tip on a blowout in Wellington

Super Rugby Round 11 - Hurricanes v Sunwolves (Friday 5:35pm AEST)

Although the Sunwolves don't appear to have any chance of upsetting the Hurricanes, they will be confident of putting in a spirited display.

The Japanese side is currently paying $41 in the Head to Head market at TAB with their opposition at $1.01. However, it is their whopping 41.5 head start at the line that has plenty of punters interested.

After two straight weeks playing Kiwi opposition away, Jamie Joseph's men enter this fixture battle-hardened. Despite losing both matches, they acquitted themselves reasonably well, going down to the Blues by 14 points and the Crusaders by 22.

Furthermore, they have only lost by a margin of 30 or more points once this season (Chiefs 61-10 on March 24), and have run some quality opposition all the way, most notably the Lions in Week 5 of the competition (losing 40-38).

It is also worth noting that Wellington has only won one match this season by a 30-point margin.

Still, the Hurricanes are a formidable opponent and they will have happy memories of playing the Tokyo-based outfit as they ran out 66-point winners when the franchises met last year.

Plenty expect the Sunwolves to prevent another blowout of that magnitude however and the $1.95 on them avoiding defeat by more than 41 points is well worth considering.

Tip: The Sunwolves to win, draw, or lose by 41 points or less at $1.95

Super Rugby Round 11 - Reds v Lions (Saturday 3:05pm AEST)

The Lions kicked off their four-week tour of Australia and New Zealand in the best possible fashion last week, holding the Waratahs scoreless as they secured their sixth victory of the season.

Leading the South African conference by a sizable margin, the Johannesburg-based outfit top the entire competition for points scored (321) and average an impressive 5.22 tries per game.

Conversely, their opposition this week, the Reds, have scored just 143 points this season and reside at the bottom of the stat column for five-pointers with only 15.

To that end, the Lions' ($1.18) outright favouritism for the clash is understandable with the Queensland side now out to $4.75 to win the match with TAB.

Although Brad Thorn's charges displayed a propensity for defence during the early rounds of the competition, they have been found out in recent weeks, losing each of their past three games by 20 or more points.

What's more, they have also struggled against this opposition in recent times, losing three straight, the last of which by 30 points in March last year.

Playing in front of a home crowd will give the Brisbane team a boost, however the Lions are in form with two straight wins and expectations are they will prove far too strong.

Tip: The Lions to account for the Reds by 13 points or more at $1.80

Bet of the Week

Potential collect for $10 outlay = $130.20

Leg 1: Sunwolves (Line) @ $1.90

The Sunwolves enter this on the back of two straight losses to Kiwi opposition. However, they were far from embarrassed going down to the Blues by 14 points and the top-of-the-conference Crusaders by 22. Although the Hurricanes have been victorious in six of seven matches this year, they have only won by 30+ points in a sole fixture.

Leg 2: Lions (Line) @ $1.90

The Super Rugby leader for Points Scored, Tries and Defenders Beaten, the Lions are expected to be too much for a struggling Reds outfit. The Queensland side has lost five of eight matches this season and has gone down by 20+ points in each of its last three outings.

Leg 3: Jaguares (Line) @ $1.90

Write the Jaguares off at your peril in New Zealand. The Argentinian side has won two straight on the road and shown they aren't to be taken lightly after defeating the Waratahs and Lions earlier in the year. The Blues enter this on the back of a home loss and have been defeated in four of their past five.

Leg 4: Crusaders (Line) @ $1.90

Despite taking place at GIO Stadium, the Cruaders are still expected to dominant a struggling Brumbies outfit. Canberra has lost three of its last four matches whilst Canterbury is on a four game win streak and has been victorious in each of the past seven meetings between the pair.
