Mixed bag for Mike Glennon-to-Cameron Meredith connection

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- Every day at Chicago Bears training camp is about the quarterbacks. There’s still not a full-blown quarterback controversy -- Mike Glennon remains No. 1 on the depth chart -- but plenty of intrigue surrounds Glennon (still a relative unknown), Mark Sanchez (former high-profile starter) and Mitchell Trubisky (No. 2 overall pick of the 2017 NFL draft).

Here's a closer look at their day Sunday:

Mike Glennon

Wow moment: Glennon fired a perfect ball to Cameron Meredith in the back corner of the end zone during the red zone period. Meredith may have had one foot out of bounds, but the throw was in the perfect spot. Glennon later found Kendall Wright underneath for a touchdown in the same period.

Whoa moment: Glennon and Meredith were not on the same page in the opening seven-on-seven period. Glennon expected Meredith to stop a route close to the left sideline and come back for the ball, but Meredith kept running, allowing cornerback Prince Amukamara to step in front of the throw for an easy pick-six.

Mitchell Trubisky

Wow moment: Trubisky, who took second-team reps, connected with fellow rookie Tanner Gentry for a touchdown in the red zone period. The real star on that play was Gentry, who made another circus catch in the end zone, but Trubisky put enough loft on the ball to give Gentry a chance. In the same period, Trubisky scrambled to his left and found tight end Ben Braunecker for a touchdown. Later in the two-minute drill, Trubisky hit tight end Daniel Brown over the middle for a score.

Whoa moment: Trubisky was picked off by Amukamara in one-on-one at the very beginning of practice. It’s rare to see a quarterback throw an interception in that period because it is so heavily weighted in favor of the offense -- the quarterback stands back there with zero pass rush or defenders in front of him.

Mark Sanchez

Sanchez didn’t practice on Sunday because of a bruised ankle. The third-team reps went to Connor Shaw.
