The Cincinnati Bengals released 20 players on Friday and Saturday afternoon, placed one on injured reserve and will put starting linebacker Vontaze Burfict on the reserve/suspended list to get to the NFL-mandated 53 players.

Most significant move: There weren't many today. That came earlier in the week when the Bengals released veteran kick returner Brandon Tate. The Bengals haven't had too many surprise cuts this summer. Most of the cuts were rookies or first-year players and few veterans lost their grip on their spots.
Burfict’s suspension begins: The Bengals will have to place starting linebacker Vontaze Burfict on the reserve/suspended list. This move has been known for months but it's finally here. Burfict will begin serving his three-game suspension for repeated violations of player safety immediately after the move is made. During this time, he will not be able to practice. He can return in Week 4 in the Thursday night game against the Dolphins.
Most significant non-moves: Running back Cedric Peerman and cornerback William Jackson III remain on the active roster as of Saturday. Although both have significant injuries -- a forearm break for Peerman and a pectoral injury for Jackson -- Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said he believes either one could possibly come back.
It’s possible one or both could land on injured reserve at some point, as the Bengals have the option to bring one player back from IR after six weeks. Injured tight end Tyler Eifert did not go on the regular-season physically unable to perform list, meaning he could return soon.
No room for Jake Kumerow: A 2015 undrafted rookie free agent, Kumerow spent all of last season on the practice squad. There was optimism he could crack the roster this summer and he looked good in his final preseason performance, catching three passes for 60 yards against the Colts' backups Thursday. But there just wasn't room on the roster for him this time, particularly with the performance of Alex Erickson. Kumerow is likely headed to the practice squad again if he clears waivers. It's likely the Bengals want to keep him around in some capacity.
