How Jaguars' depth chart looks after first wave of free agency

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. 00 The Jacksonville Jaguars added seven new players and re-signed another on the first two days of the 2018 league year. They also lost two key players in receiver Allen Robinson and nickel back Aaron Colvin.

Here’s a look at the Jaguars’ updated two-deep depth chart after all the moves:

Offense

QB: Blake Bortles/TBA. Bortles’ new contract lowers his 2018 salary cap number to $10 million, which helped clear space for the new additions. He’s the only quarterback on the roster and general manager Dave Caldwell said it’s not automatic that they’ll add a veteran backup.

RB: Leonard Fournette/T.J. Yeldon. Fournette’s main goal after rushing for 1,040 yards as a rookie is to stay healthy. He dealt with a nagging ankle injury for much of the second half of the season and missed two games because of injuries. Yeldon came on strong in the second half of the season after being inactive for the first six games.

FB: Tommy Bohanon/Niles Paul. Bohanon caught a key touchdown pass in the Jaguars’ playoff victory over Pittsburgh. Paul can play receiver, fullback and tight end.

WR: Marqise Lee/Dede Westbrook. Lee has actually played in more games and has more career catches than Robinson, who signed with the Chicago Bears. He needs to hold onto the ball better (12 drops over the last two seasons) but he’s been pretty good after the catch. Westbrook flashed in the last seven games after missing the first nine recovering from a sports hernia. The Jaguars hope he can become a downfield playmaker.

WR: Donte Moncrief/Keelan Cole. Moncrief has size (6-foot-2) and speed (4.40 in the 40 at the combine) to go along with the ability to go up and win 50-50 balls. He needs to become a more consistent player. Cole was a pleasant surprise in 2017 as an undrafted rookie out of Kentucky Wesleyan. It’s unclear where Allen Hurns fits in here. He’s missed 11 games the last two seasons and $4 million of his $6.9 million salary becomes guaranteed on Friday, so there’s a chance he may not be on the roster by the end of the day.

TE: Marcedes Lewis/Austin Seferian-Jenkins. Lewis is entering his 13th season and he’s mainly a blocker at this point in his career. Seferian-Jenkins caught 50 passes last season but averaged only 7.1 yards per catch.

LT: Cam Robinson/Josh Wells. Robinson started 15 games last season as a rookie and is already better than former first-round pick Luke Joeckel.

LG: Andrew Norwell/Tyler Shatley. The Jaguars are giving Norwell $13.3 million annually, which makes him the league’s highest-paid guard. He was a first-team All-Pro in 2017.

C: Brandon Linder/Shatley. Linder signed a five-year extension last year that made him the highest-paid center.

RG: A.J. Cann/Chris Reed. Cann enters the final season of his rookie contract and is still battling inconsistency.

RT: Jermey Parnell/Wells. Parnell battled a knee injury during the middle of the 2017 season but played solidly down the stretch.

Defense

DE: Yannick Ngakoue/Dante Fowler, Jr. Ngakoue has 20 sacks in his two seasons and has established himself as one of the league’s top young pass-rushers.

DT: Malik Jackson/Marcell Dareus. Jackson was a Pro Bowler last season after recording a career-high 8.0 sacks and four forced fumbles.

NT: Dareus/Abry Jones. Dareus joined the team via trade midseason and contributed 21 tackles and one sack.

DE: Calais Campbell/Dawuane Smoot. Campbell set a franchise record with 14.5 sacks in 2017. He was a Pro Bowler and a first-team All-Pro as well.

WLB: Telvin Smith/Myles Jack. No player has made more solo tackles than Smith (341) since he entered the league in 2014. Smith made his first Pro Bowl last season.

MLB: Blair Brown/Donald Payne. Brown is a big hitter whose playing time came mainly on special teams in 2017. Jack also could move back to this spot and the Jaguars are expected to draft at least one linebacker.

SLB: Jack/Brown. Jack replaced Paul Posluszny in the middle last spring but the team eventually put Posluszny back on the field in the middle on early downs and took him off the field in nickel. Jack made one of the biggest plays in the postseason when he stripped New England Patriots running back Dion Lewis in the AFC Championship game.

CB: Jalen Ramsey/D.J. Hayden. Ramsey has established himself as one of the best corners in the game. He made his first Pro Bowl and was a first-team All-Pro in 2017 in just his second season.

CB: A.J. Bouye/Jalen Myrick. Bouye, signed last season as a free agent, led the Jaguars with six interceptions. He also made his first Pro Bowl last season.

SS: Barry Church/Jarrod Wilson. Church joined the team last season and solidified a spot that had been wildly inconsistent when Johnathan Cyprien was on the field.

FS: Tashaun Gipson/Wilson. Gipson rebounded from a disappointing season in 2016 by intercepting four passes and breaking up seven others.

Nickel: Hayden/Myrick. The Jaguars signed Hayden on Thursday to replace Aaron Colvin, who signed a free-agent deal with the Houston Texans.
