COSTA MESA, Calif. -- Anyone who has been around Tre Boston understands he has the gift of gab.

So it's no surprise the Los Angeles Chargers safety is putting that skill to good use during the offseason.

Boston has been appearing on the NFL Network as a guest analyst, something he started doing during the regular season and hopes to pursue once his playing career is over.

"I definitely love doing it and I'll try to do a little more during the offseason with those guys," Boston said. "If I stay here [in Los Angeles], that's probably going to be something that I do for the next few years while I play."

Boston, 25, played well in his first season with the Chargers. He had his best season as a pro, playing all 16 games and leading the team with five interceptions. Boston also finished tied for second on the team with 79 tackles and developed into one of the vocal leaders on a defense that gave up just 17 points per game, No. 3 in the NFL.

"His enthusiasm is contagious," Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said. "I like his passion for the game. I definitely like it on the defensive side of the ball -- it gets the guys going early. He's an emotional leader on defense."

After being released in a salary cost-cutting move during the offseason last year by the Carolina Panthers, Boston bet on himself, signing a one-year, $900,000 deal to join the Chargers. He's one of 14 players set to become an unrestricted free agent for the Bolts in March.

While hopeful to return to the Chargers in 2018, Boston said he wants to keep doing the TV work wherever he lands in free agency.

"We've talked about doing more of the on-air, back set if I end up somewhere else," Boston said. "But to be in the studio, that's rare work right there. I don't know many players who can get that work, so it's a privilege to go in there and show everybody that that's something I have passion for and want to do in the future."
