SEC intriguing freshmen: Missouri Tigers

This week, we’re continuing our team-by-team look at some of the intriguing freshmen on SEC teams. Next up are the Missouri Tigers:

LB Trey Baldwin: Baldwin, who enrolled in January and participated in spring football, has the kind of size coaches seek in an SEC linebacker (6-foot-2, 240 pounds) and he’s a physical player; something head coach Barry Odom noticed. He worked at the weakside linebacker spot in spring, formerly occupied by All-American Kentrell Brothers, but in the spring it was Joey Burkett who took most of the snaps with the first team at the position. Terez Hall, Brandon Lee and Eric Beisel are also guys who could get playing time at the spot, so Baldwin has plenty of competition (and Michael Scherer and Donavin Newsom are manning the other linebacker positions). Early enrollees usually give themselves a leg up when it comes to receiving early playing time, but it’s unclear at this point how much time Baldwin will see on defense. With summer workouts and training camp still to go, there’s time for competition to sort itself out. Special teams could be the early route to the field for Baldwin.
