Titans adding nine to practice squad, primarily from their roster cuts

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Titans officially announced eight of their 10 practice squad members on Sunday. The group consists primarily of players who spent training camp with the team.

Titans coach Mike Mularkey talked about the value of using the practice squad as a platform to make it to the active roster. Cornerback Kalan Reed did so last season and landed on the 53-man roster this year.

Here's a look at the group the team announced:

  • NT Antwaun Woods: Woods, who was one of Mularkey's toughest cuts, lands on the practice squad for the second straight season after a strong summer. His position limits his value for the team, but he's shown NFL talent and could be called up during the year if an injury occurs.

  • RB Khalfani Muhammad: Muhammad, a Titans 2017 seventh-round pick, needs more seasoning before he can contribute on an NFL roster. He's undersized but could work his way into being a gadget player in time.

  • TE Jerome Cunningham: Cunningham has bounced between practice squads and NFL rosters over the past few years, but he provides a well-rounded and ready fourth tight end for Tennessee should an injury occur.

  • QB Tyler Ferguson: The Titans went with just two quarterbacks on the active roster so Ferguson, an undrafted free agent who had just 56 passes at Penn State and Western Kentucky, will get some scout team reps in.

  • WR Darius Jennings: Titans receivers coach Frisman Jackson named Jennings as one of the two best surprises in his receivers room this summer. Jennings had five catches for 72 yards in the preseason.

  • S Denzel Johnson: An undrafted free agent who got praise from Mularkey for his play this summer on defense and special teams, finished the preseason with 10 tackles.

  • OL Tyler Marz: Marz got regular second-team reps throughout training camp and appeared to have an outside chance to make the roster. With the Titans having just eight offensive linemen on the active roster, he has a good chance of being called up if an injury occurs.

  • OL Steven Moore: The Titans hope to mold this 6-foot-6 offensive tackle who joined the Titans as an undrafted free agent into a contributor.

The ninth practice squad member will be receiver Zach Pascal, who spent training camp with the Washington Redskins before being cut, per a league source. The 6-foot-2 Pascal had three catches for 27 yards and one rush for 22 yards in the preseason.
