The Tennessee Titans cut 35 players and made three more moves on Saturday to trim their roster down to the NFL-mandated 53 players. Here's a closer look at the final moves:
Most significant move: Help is on the way along the offensive line. The Titans activated right tackle Jack Conklin from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list on Saturday. Conklin tore his ACL in the divisional playoff game against the New England Patriots in January. Getting Conklin back gives the Titans the pair of bookend tackles to protect Marcus Mariota and relegates Dennis Kelly to a swing lineman who can fill in at tackle or guard.
Eye on slot receiver: Nick Williams was assumed to be the Titans' primary slot receiver, but he was among the 35 players who were cut. Deontay Burnett was one of the most consistent wideouts during camp, but his lack of special-teams contribution hurt him. Expect to see Rishard Matthews and Taywan Taylor get the majority of the snaps in the slot. However, in an effort to move Corey Davis across the formation, he could slide into the slot at times, as well.
Robert Spillane falls short: Spillane simply got caught up in a numbers game as the Titans elected to keep four inside linebackers. The 2018 undrafted free agent became a fan favorite after posting 16 tackles and an interception in the preseason. Spillane drew praise from coach Mike Vrabel because of the passion he played with on the field. Spillane is likely to be signed to the practice squad once he clears waivers.
