Recruiting progress reports for first-year coaches heading into signing day

With national signing day coming up Wednesday, it's time to look at how first-year coaches from Texas A&M's Jimbo Fisher to UCLA's Chip Kelly are faring on the recruiting trail.

It's not fair to judge new coaches on their first recruiting classes because they're typically given only a few weeks after they're hired to try to fill the class and land their recruiting targets. The following class is when they need to start making moves.

We saw some big-name coaches move to new programs last year, and those coaches are now approaching the early signing period with a season under their belts at their new schools. Here's how they're doing:

Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M
2018 class ranking: 16
2019 class ranking: 2

If Fisher and his staff can finish this cycle in February at No. 2 in the class rankings, it would be the Aggies' highest ranking since ESPN started the ESPN 300 in 2009. The staff currently has pledges from 12 ESPN 300 recruits, which is third-most behind Alabama and Georgia.
