UAB posts third shutout of season in 19-0 win over UTEP

EL PASO, Texas -- Spencer Brown ran for 103 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries and the UAB defense posted its third shutout of the season in a 19-0 victory over UTEP on Saturday in Conference USA West Division action.

Brown ran it in from 15 yards out to give the Blazers (7-1, 5-0) a 7-0 lead and Nick Vogel booted a 36-yard field goal with 2 minutes left in the first quarter for a 10-0 advantage. UAB added a safety in the third quarter after the Miners (0-8, 0-4) stuffed UAB's fourth-and-goal run from the 1-yard line. Quardraiz Wadley fumbled a botched handoff on the next play and UTEP's Brandon Jones recovered the ball in the end zone for 2 points and a 12-0 lead. Tyler Johnston III's 4-yard TD run in the final quarter capped the scoring for the Blazers.
