Georgia has promoted James Coley to offensive coordinator, the school announced on Friday.
Coley, who was co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach last season, replaces former OC Jim Chaney, who left for the same position at Tennessee.
Coley was Georgia's receivers coach in 2006. Before that, he spent time as offensive coordinator at both Miami and Florida State.
Coley and Georgia coach Kirby Smart were part of the same Miami Dolphins staff under coach Nick Saban in 2005-06.
In a statement, Smart lauded Coley's experience and how he will "transition easily into his new role."
"James has been a critical part of our staff since we came to Georgia," Smart said. "He's done an incredible job in all aspects of his responsibilities including coaching wide receivers for two years, serving as co-offensive coordinator this past season coaching the quarterbacks, and recruiting."
Georgia, which went 11-3 this past season, returns its starting quarterback of the last two years, Jake Fromm. The sophomore completed 67.3 percent of his passes and threw for 30 touchdowns and six interceptions as the Bulldogs ranked ninth in the final Associated Press Top 25 Poll.
