Gardner-Webb coach resigns

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. -- Gardner-Webb announced Friday that head football coach Ron Dickerson, Jr. has resigned to pursue other opportunities.

Dickerson, 41, was 7-15 overall and 4-8 in Big South Conference play during his two seasons with the school.

No replacement has been named.

Gardner-Webb vice president for athletics Chuck Burch says, "I appreciate the time and effort Ron put into our football program, and wish him the best as he moves forward with his career. We look forward to bringing on board a coach who is committed to developing a program that will allow our football team to be successful on the field, in the classroom and the community."

Dickerson was the eighth head coach in Gardner-Webb's 43-season history of college football.
