Five-star 2019 prospect Tyger Campbell committed to DePaul on Monday night. Campbell, a 5-foot-11 point guard, took an unofficial visit to the Blue Demons' campus over the weekend. He chose DePaul over Michigan State, UNLV, Tennessee and Alabama. "Their sell was they were honest with me," Campbell said. "They haven't had some great seasons in the past. They want me to come in and be the guy. Lead the team, bring DePaul basketball back. "I really liked coach [Dave] Leitao, seems like a great guy. He's very wise and very knowledgeable. And Chicago itself, it's a great city. I got to see it." DePaul recently hired Shane Heirman as an assistant coach. Heirman was Campbell's coach at La Lumiere School (Indiana) the past two seasons. "It was a really big deal," Campbell said of the hire. "I look up to him off the court. He's such a great guy and I know he has my back. We've been through a lot the last two years, on the court, off the court. It played a big part." Campbell is ranked as the No. 25 prospect in 2019, and the No. 4 point guard in the class. He's only the second player in the ESPN 25 to make an early commitment, following LaMelo Ball's pledge to UCLA nearly two years ago. However, Campbell is hoping to reclassify into the 2018 class and graduate after next season. "I'm going to do it," Campbell said. "I'm planning classes." DePaul is also in heavy pursuit of uncommitted five-star senior Brian Bowen, who played for Heirman -- and with Campbell -- at La Lumiere. "I'm probably gonna be in his ear," Campbell said.
