FAMU replacing AD Derek Horne

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida A&M University says it is replacing athletic director Derek Horne.

FAMU interim president Larry Robinson notified Horne on Tuesday that he will not be reappointed. School officials said in a written statement that Horne has been placed on administrative leave with pay until September 7.

Robinson said he made a "leadership change" and hopes to launch a search soon for a new athletic director. In the meantime, Associate director Michael Smith will serve as interim director of athletics.

Smith served as associate director of athletics since 2010 and was responsible for internal operations.

Horne was responsible for arranging alternative music entertainment in light of the suspension of the famed Marching 100 band after a hazing scandal.
