Luvo Manyonga claimed gold in the long jump on Wednesday as South Africa's good run at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia continued. The 27-year-old, the reigning world champion, has been the standout jumper in the world over the past 18 months, and lived up to his 'favourite' tag with a Games record effort of 8.41m. Compatriot Ruswahl Samaai finished third with a jump of 8.22m, just behind Australian Henry Frayne, who claimed silver. Cameroon's Marcel Mayack II was well off the pace, finishing 11th with a best jump of 7.70m. The two long jump medals see Team South Africa advance to fourth on the standings, behind Australia, England, and India.
