3.55pm The game is officially abandoned. A tame finish to Zimbabwe's tour of South Africa. Wonder what each team learnt from the ODIs and T20s though. And that will be all from us at ESPNcricinfo. Hope you enjoyed our coverage from South Africa this past month.

"Our fielding was good, but the bowlers did really well," says Zimbabwe captain Hamilton Masakadza. "But the batting has been a let down for us this tour, we will look to correct that before we go to Bangladesh. The top three or top four wasn't setting up a platform for the team, and that didn't allow us to express ourselves. We have to adjust quickly to Bangladesh conditions. We play in the next five-six days, so time is short. Mavuta has come on really well this series, his bowling has been a revelation."

Imran Tahir is Man of the Series, but he isn't there as he was released from the squad to be given rest. JP Duminy collects the award on his behalf.

"If you look at the series, it was said from the start that a few guys will be getting opportunities," says JP Duminy. "The guys got batting time and opportunities. Not a lot of high scores were scored in the one-day series, but the selectors can look at these guys, which will be good in the long run. So good things to come out of the tour and should help us in Australia. We've been speaking of the brand of cricket we want to play with the bat, and the Australia series will be an opportunity for us to bring that out. Conditions play a big part of how we play in Australia. But a great opportunity for us."

Suyog: "For Zimbabwe, the takeaway clearly is Mavuta, they should carefully nurture him. He has a very bright future."

3.45pm Hello, folks. The next inspection will be in 20 minutes, according to CSA. It's posssble that the game gets called off at that time.

Well, I hate being the bringer of bad news, so I'm gonna give that honor to Sreshth. He will take over the rain watch for a while and bring you an update on a cancellation, which is looking increasingly imminent.

3.24pm The rain has refused to cede, and it doesn't look likely that it will anytime soon. Meanwhile, as we await official word from the venue, here's a revisit of the past. What do you remember the date October 14 for in the cricket world? The fourth one-day hat-trick, registered by the great Wasim Akram that stunned West Indies? New Zealand's epic draw against India in Chandigarh in 1999? Or the days of Australia's hegemony over the cricket world that was symbolised by the kicking off of the only Test against a star-studded World XI? Oh, and a whole host of cricketers share their birthdays today. Jump in to revisit October 14 over the years.

2.40pm Not good news. The rain's back, and it's pretty heavy. The outfield was pretty waterlogged already, so chances of a game very slim, really. Not too surprising, though, given the forecast we've had all along.

If you're gritting your teeth at the state of affairs, here's something gripping for you to dip into. In another rain-hit affair, an epic Plunket Shield game at Nelson hurtled to a dramatic finish on Saturday. It's a game that had [checks notes] TWO zero-for-zero declarations and a dramatic penultimate-over finish. Check this out.

Dev: "I live in midrand Johannesburg and we had a lot of rain from yesterday. Pretoria had it the worst, flooding and hail. I won't be surprise if the game is abandoned. "

2.25pm Word from Liam is that the rain has stopped and the covers are coming off. BUT, before you get all too excited, there's more: "Could bucket down at any moment," he says. "It's dark and gloomy."

2.05pm There was an inspection scheduled for 2.45pm, but turns out it's raining as of now and the covers are on, so we won't be having a start anytime soon.

2.02pm Well, well.. it was raining a couple of hours ago. Still a pretty dark, gloomy day, so toss will be delayed.

1.45pm After three ODIs and two T20Is, this 2018-19 limited-overs series between South Africa and Zimbabwe is still searching for its first real contest. Zimbabwe have come close on more than one occasion, there's no denying that, but momentary sparks of brilliance are hardly enough to win series against top-flight teams such as South Africa. Now, SA have sealed the series. Zimbabwe have nothing to lose. Given that, can they come out with no inhibitions and put up a strong performance to bow out on a winning note? That, of course, wouldn't be any kind of a long-term solution to their issues that will require deeper introspection. But a win is a win, and Zimbabwe would be more than glad to accept one after a rough series. They've made their share of changes, but can they finally settle down on one that pushes and tests an overpowering home team? Hello, and welcome to ESPNcricinfo's live coverage of the third and final T20I in Benoni.

Speaking of changes, South Africa could rest Faf du Plessis for this game, and that only makes sense. He's returning from a right shoulder injury, so this is a good chance for him to rest that, with the series already sealed. What other changes could we be looking at? Dive into Liam Brickhill's preview to find out.
