Leicestershire have appointed Karen Rothery as the club's new chief executive. Rothery, who will take the reins in April, succeeds Wasim Khan, who is leaving to take the job of PCB managing director.

Rothery has held a variety of management roles in sport, serving as chief executive at British Universities College Sports and Surrey Sports Park at the University of Surrey, as well as commercial director at England Netball. She has previously spent 20 years working in the clothing industry.

Having grown up in Enderby, on the outskirts of Leicester, Rothery also studied for a Masters in sport and leisure management at nearby Loughborough.

"We are extremely pleased that Karen has accepted the position of chief executive officer at the club," Leicestershire chairman Paul Haywood said.

"Karen was the outstanding applicant with proven leadership and experience in the key areas of commercial, community and sport, which is what the club require at the present time. Karen has overseen large commercial operations and has had an important role in developing community relations in a number of different sports."

Roy Bent, a member of the board, will continue to serve as the club's interim chief executive until Rothery arrives for the start of the season.

"I'm really pleased to be joining Leicestershire County Cricket Club and I'm looking forward to working with the staff and board at Grace Road, as well as meeting the members and fans," she said.
