Each week, I write about the sport I love, college basketball:
• I'm happy to see another regional rivalry coming back to life, as Florida and Miami will renew their series. Good job by Hurricanes coach Jim Larranaga and Gators coach Billy Donovan making this happen.
• Grambling's timing was a little strange, firing coach Joseph Price in early July. That puts a lot of pressure on the next coach to come into a transition situation.
• The latest transfer came when Providence's Josh Fortune, a good shooter who averaged more than 8 PPG last season, went to Colorado. He will sit out the upcoming campaign.
• A masterful communicator, Florida coach Donovan was picked No. 1 among college basketball coaches by ESPN.com voters. There is no doubt that he is a lock future Hall of Famer!
• Shane Battier will be terrific in his new role as a hoops broadcaster. He was always one of my favorites to cover when he starred in college.
