Everton target Jack Wilshere and Jamie Vardy for summer rebuild

Clubs are slowly turning their eyes toward the summer window, and Transfer Talk has the updates on all the latest rumours.

Everton enter Wilshere race

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is in demand, with the Mail reporting that Everton are in the hunt as his contract stalemate with Arsenal continues.

It says the Toffees are ready to make "a lucrative move" for the England international if his situation in North London is not resolved.

The Merseysiders "will offer a big signing-on bonus and a deal in excess of the £80,000-per-week the Gunners are offering," the report adds.

Wilshere will be available on a free at the end of the season if new terms are not agreed, and the Mail says Everton "are trying to manoeuvre themselves to the front of the queue."

But they are not the only ones -- the Sun reports that Wilshere is also interesting Juventus.

Meanwhile, Everton continue to target Leicester striker Jamie Vardy -- but any move will depend on whether Steve Walsh remains as director of football, according to the Liverpool Echo.

It reports that Walsh, once of Leicester, could be replaced by PSV Eindhoven's Marcel Brands but is going ahead with his summer transfer plans.

Vardy joined Leicester when Walsh was head of recruitment at the King Power Stadium and remains "at the top of his wishlist."

Liverpool could swoop for Lepizig's Werner

Staying on Merseyside, the Independent says Liverpool are mulling a move for RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner.

Liverpool will bring in Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita at the end of the season and the Independent says "Jurgen Klopp has shown by far the strongest interest in his teammate Werner," linked with a number of clubs.

However, it warns that "negotiating with Leipzig may be difficult, especially given how drawn-out the deal for Keita was."

Although Werner has previously spoken of a desire to move to Manchester United, "Liverpool have shown much more willingness to go for him."

City's move for Fred in doubt

Shakhtar Donetsk CEO Sergei Palkin seems certain that Fred will still join Manchester City -- but the Mail says the Premier League side could "pull the plug" on a deal.

City had hoped to add the Brazil international to their ranks in January and, when that failed to materialise, a summer switch had been expected.

But the Mail reports that sources have told it a deal is unlikely "despite Fred talking up the chances of joining Pep Guardiola in the coming months."

Boss Guardiola, eager to bring in a new midfielder, could now turn his attentions to Borussia Dortmund's Julian Weigl, scouted by City in recent weeks.

Tap-ins

- Tottenham are set to transfer list Fernando Llorente at the end of the season, the London Evening Standard reports.

It says Llorente, signed from Swansea, is unlikely to see his first-team chances increase despite the injury suffered by Harry Kane, with fit-again Erik Lamela preferred over the Spain international.

- Newcastle will renew their interest in Besiktas midfielder Tolgay Arslan, a target at the start of the season, when the window reopens, TalkSPORT reports.

Citing reports in Turkey, it says the German-born player is also interesting Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen, while Chelsea have previously been linked.
