LIVERPOOL, England -- Liverpool were frustrated by Bayern Munich at Anfield on Tuesday as the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie ended in a 0-0 draw.
Both teams had a number of chances in a frantic affair on Merseyside, but the tie will be settled at the Allianz Arena on March 13.
Positives
The dream of a Premier League-European Cup double still lives on. Liverpool will have to get something at the home of the Bundesliga champions but that is very achievable for this side. Meanwhile, what a performance Jordan Henderson put in. Often the subject of ridicule from football fans, sometimes his own, this was a brilliant display from the Liverpool captain against elite opposition.
Negatives
Liverpool may rue the opportunities -- some glorious -- that they squandered over the course of these 90 minutes. The Bournemouth game aside, the level of performance in 2019 has to be a tad concerning for Jurgen Klopp.

6 -- Liverpool's sloppiness will raise the question in some quarters about the decision to go on another warm-weather trip in the lead up to this game. Regardless, the 4-3-3 setup Klopp opted for, with Naby Keita included, was bold against such a good team. It worked to the extent that Liverpool had enough chances to win the game.

GK Alisson, 5 -- Denied Robert Lewandowski from point-blank range, but the other aspect of Alisson's game left a lot to be desired. The Brazilian gave the home crowd a fair few nervy moments being far too lax with possession when the ball was at his feet.
DF Trent Alexander-Arnold, 5 -- A bit too wasteful with the ball -- much to the irritation of his manager.
DF Fabinho, 7 -- Another assured showing at centre-half. It can't be easy to go from playing so well in midfield to deputising in defence.
DF Joel Matip, 5 -- Meant to be the calming presence in the back four, Matip was far from it. Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and even Dejan Lovren were big misses on Tuesday.
DF Andrew Robertson, 6 -- Had the tricky task of defending Serge Gnabry and was, therefore, limited in what he could do in the final third.
MF Georginio Wijnaldum, 6 -- For once, outshined by his two midfield partners. Still looked relatively bright, though.
MF Jordan Henderson, 9 -- Played some very incisive passes in addition to his vital defensive contribution, proving he very much belongs on this stage.
MF Naby Keita, 7 -- His fifth consecutive start and looking more and more confident in a Liverpool shirt. Encouraging signs from the 24-year-old.
FW Sadio Mane, 6 -- Somehow did not have a goal to his name after numerous chances in the first half. Often in the right place, he just could not apply the necessary finishes.
FW Roberto Firmino, 7 -- A doubt for the game through illness, but recovered enough to maintain his record of playing in every European game for Liverpool under Klopp (now 35 matches). Played as if he was 100 percent fit for 76 minutes, dropping deep and attempting to create space for his teammates.
FW Mohamed Salah, 5 -- Found his opportunities to run in behind Bayern's backline few and far between. Some way off the ridiculously high standards he has set himself.
