MEXICO CITY -- After Ricardo "Tuca" Ferretti achieved his 400th win as head coach when Tigres beat Club America, and after Dorados picked up its first win since Nov. 2015, Week 8 of the Liga MX's 2016 Clausura has come to a close.
Even though Rayados lost 4-0 against Cruz Azul, Antonio Mohamed's men remain in first place, while Chivas and Veracruz continue to be the only clubs without wins in the current season.
Here are 10 storylines of Liga MX's Week 8:
1. Club America suffers second 4-1 loss of the season
America has lost twice in the current season, and in both occasions it's been by a 4-1 scoreline. The first loss happened at Estadio Azteca against Pachuca; the second one happened on Saturday at Tigres' Estadio Universitario.
Before America center-back, Pablo Aguilar, got sent off, Ignacio Ambríz men's chances of taking at least a point away from El Volcan were high. However, once Aguilar's expulsion left America with 10 men, Tigres took over the game. At the end of the match, midfielder William da Silva, also got sent off. Las Aguilas have had four players sent off in the last two games.
2. Cruz Azul trashes Rayados
Joy has returned to Estadio Azul, especially after Cruz Azul's 4-0 victory over Monterrey, who came into the game as league leaders. La Maquina's performance on Saturday evening had everything -- well-executed counterattacks and great defense against Monterrey's formidable attack. The result consolidates Tomas Boy and his coaching staff's project, while striker Jorge Benitez already has six goals, two goals less than Tigres striker Andre-Pierre Gignac.
3. Gignac's scoring streak continues
Gignac is unstoppable at the moment in Liga MX. Since that stomach illness that prevented him from taking part in the Tigres-Chivas match in Week 3, he has scored at least one goal in each of the last five games; it's the best scoring streak the Frenchman has had since starting his Liga MX journey. What's also notorious about his goals is that most of them are of a high degree; each strike is a work of art.
4. Dorados achieves first win since Nov. 2015
It finally happened -- Dorados got its first win of the Clausura. Ironically, Dorados' last two league wins have been against Guadalajara teams, Atlas and Chivas. The recent 2-1 win over Atlas proves that under new coach Jose Cruz the team has rediscovered the joy to play. Historic Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez, who's from Sinaloa, visited the club during the week to give the team a motivational speech and, by the looks of it, the talk worked.
5. Chiapas gets big win in Leon despite difficult week
In a week when reports emerged that Chiapas hadn't paid most of its player in the senior team and youth teams, Chiapas got its biggest win of the season against Club Leon. The 3-1 win in Nou Camp was only the club's second win of the season, and if the problems continue at the administration level of the club the team will likely continue to have an inconsistent season.
6. Hirving Lozano's second goal of the season leads Pachuca to fifth win
After its surprising 1-0 loss to Atlas last weekend, Los Tuzos went to Toluca's Estadio Nemecio Diez and got a 1-0 win thanks to a "Chucky" Lozano goal. The win allows Pachuca to continue its strong season, which has only seen it lose once. Pachuca currently has the best defense in the league, and has a group of attackers that can score a goal in the first minute of the game as was the case in Toluca on Saturday night.
7. Munoz is losing ground in El Tri's GK battleground
Juan Carlos Osorio and his coaching staff were present at the Cruz Azul-Monterrey match on Saturday, and even though the scoreline read 4-0 in favor of Cruz Azul, Rayados goalkeeper Jonathan Orozco had a couple of sensational stops that negated Cruz Azul from extending their lead. At the other end of the pitch, Jose de Jesus Corona oozed confidence in goal, allowing his team to move forward with ease. In contrast, in Monterrey, Moises Munoz was a bit off with his decision making, especially in Damian Alvarez's goal, and Rafael Sobis' screamer. In Week 8, Munoz lost ground in the battle of who will be among El Tri's top three goalkeepers in the next call-up.
8. Veracruz's woes continue
Veracruz is the the king of draw. After its 0-0 tie against Pumas, it collected its fifth draw of the season. Los Tiburones Rojos are nowhere near the form that took them to two consecutive postseason appearances. Veracruz, as Chiapas, was another club involved in reports that they hadn't paid players in months.
9. CCL participants had a so-so weekend, except Tigres
Queretaro and Santos Laguna picked up draws, while America suffered a loss against Tigres. Against Morelia, Queretaro took an early 1-0 lead, but then allowed Morelia to come back. Santos drew 1-1 against Puebla, who finished the game with 10 men. Santos and Gallos Blancos are not playing great football at the moment, while America will not be able to count their captain Rubens Sambueza next Wednesday against Seattle due to an injury he sustained in the game against Tigres.
10. Chivas misses a great chance to get its first win of the season
There's no joy in Chivas' football, just a bunch of pressure. Chivas played more than 30 minutes with an extra player, but only managed to draw 1-1 against Xolos. Chivas's Edwin "Aris" Hernandez scored an own-goal, while captain Omar Bravo missed a penalty that could have been the winner. Chivas' struggles continue; it hasn't been able to win a home game since Sept. 29th.
