PSG end poor run with 5-0 thrashing of Lorient in Paris

Paris Saint-Germain returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion as they thumped Lorient 5-0 at the Parc des Princes.

Goals from Thomas Meunier, Edison Cavani, Thiago Silva, Lucas Moura and a Zarga Toure own goal helped bring an end to a recent run of poor form for Unai Emery's side.

Goalkeeper Paul Delecroix had a big part to play early on as he got down at Cavani's feet to deny the Uruguayan before superbly keeping out Lucas Moura's cross-cum-shot.

The Lorient keeper could not keep out Thomas Meunier's effort after 25 minutes, though, when the Belgian full-back collected Blaise Matuidi's pass before cleverly lifting the ball over Delecroix from a tight angle.

And, as half-time loomed, PSG doubled their lead when Toure put through his own net after helplessly directing Lucas' dangerous delivery beyond his own keeper.

The hosts picked up where they left off soon after the restart and it was not long before Delecroix was picking the ball out of his own net for the third time inside 50 minutes.

Lucas' delivery direct from a corner proved too inviting for Silva who rose highest to power a header home for his second goal of the season.

The champions were not done there as Cavani made it four direct from the penalty spot on 63 minutes after PSG's top scorer was brought down by Delecroix.

And it was not long before Lucas added a fifth, bursting through on goal from Marco Verratti's ball before cleverly lifting the ball over Delecroix.

Silva could easily have made it six late on after he steered the ball beyond Delecroix but Sylvain Marveaux hacked off the line to deny the Brazilian a second.
