Lille took a major step towards sealing second place in Ligue 1 and Champions League football as Loic Remy secured a precious 1-0 victory over Bordeaux on Sunday.

Remy connected with Jonathan Ikone's free kick to volley in his sixth league goal of the season and third in as many games in the 27th minute, settling the game at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

Bordeaux's woes were compounded when defender Pablo was shown a red card two minutes from time for a poor tackle on winger Nicolas Pepe.

Victory took Lille to 72 points with two games to go as they tightened their grip on second in the league in search of Champions League football next season.

Champions Paris Saint-Germain last month secured an eighth league title and their sixth in seven seasons.

The top two in Ligue 1 are guaranteed automatic Champions League berths while the third-placed team will enter the elite club competition's qualifying rounds.
