Romania rout 10-man Armenia for victory in qualifier

Romania cruised to their first win of the new World Cup qualifying campaign with a 5-0 win over 10-man Armenia in Yerevan.

The hosts' hopes were effectively dashed as early as the third minute when Gor Malakyan was sent off for clearing the ball off his line with his arm, and Bogdan Stancu put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot.

Romania, who drew their opening Group E game against Montenegro last month, doubled their lead after 10 minutes through Adrian Popa.

Razvan Marin and Nicolae Stanciu made it 4-0 before half-time and Alexandru Chipciu completed the convincing win with the only strike of the second half.
