Cory Burke goal all Philadelphia Union need to down New England Revolution

Cory Burke scored a disputed goal in the second half and it held up as the Philadelphia Union defeated the visiting New England Revolution 1-0 Saturday night at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pa.

Goalkeeper Andre Blake made four saves for his seventh shutout of the season, two shy of his career high set last year, as Philadelphia (11-11-3, 36 points) reached the .500 mark and extended its winning streak to three matches.

New England (7-10-8, 29 points) lost its third in a row and saw its winless streak stretch to eight matches. The Revolution haven't won since June 30 against D.C. United.

Burke's goal in the 53rd minute, his team-leading seventh of the season, was credited only after video review overturned an initial offside call.

As Union midfielder Haris Medunjanin was about to make a long pass from his own end, Burke spun past defender Jalil Anibaba near midfield. The Jamaican international sprinted well behind the New England defense, corralled the ball near the top left of the 18-yard box, deked goalkeeper Matt Turner near the penalty spot and put the ball into an open net from 10 yards out.

The Revolution claimed Burke was offside, but referee Drew Fischer determined the review showed otherwise, as Burke was kept onside by another defender who gave up on the play after the linesman raised his flag.

Blake's best save might have come in the 70th minute, when he made a diving stop of Cristian Penilla's 15-yard shot that was headed for the far corner, getting his left hand on the ball to deflect it out of bounds.

Blake also made a diving, left-handed stop on a Juan Agudelo header that was headed for the far post in the 79th minute.

New England's Turner made two saves.

His best stop came in the 49th minute, as Philadelphia's Keegan Rosenberry found himself alone at the top right of the 6-yard box, but his half-volley off a high-bouncing cross was deflected wide by the goalie.

The Union swept the three-game season series.
