Sporting KC rally for draw with nine-man Revolution in eight-goal thriller
Krisztian Nemeth burned his former team by scoring his second goal of the match in the 83rd minute as Sporting Kansas City rallied to a 4-4 draw against the New England Revolution on Saturday.
New England ended with nine men after receiving two red cards.
Felipe Gutierrez converted a penalty kick for the first of his two goals, and Tim Melia finished with three saves for Sporting Kansas City, which overcame a two-goal deficit to remain unbeaten in its last 10 regular-season home matches.
Juan Fernando Caicedo scored twice for the Revolution, who played with 10 men for the majority of the second half and with nine just before stoppage time.
Brandon Bye received a second yellow card and was sent off in the 55th minute following a tripping foul while fellow defender Jalil Anibaba was sent off for a bad foul in the 90th minute.
Juan Agudelo collected a goal and an assist, DeJuan Jones also scored and Cody Cropper turned aside three shots for New England (2-6-2, 8 points).
Sporting Kansas City (2-2-4, 10 points) took advantage of the short-handed Revolution, as Gutierrez converted a penalty kick in the 60th minute to trim New England's lead to 3-2.
The momentum was short-lived as Johnny Russell's hand ball in the box resulted in a penalty kick, with Jones cleaning up a loose ball following Carles Gil's PK miss in the 66th minute.
Gutierrez scored from in close in the 70th minute to trim the deficit, and Nemeth headed home the equalizer off a set piece to forge a tie at four in the 83rd minute.
The Revolution opened the scoring in the 18th minute as Agudelo raced up the left wing before issuing a centering feed to Caicedo, who one-touched the ball in the box before spinning and scoring from in close.
Sporting Kansas City responded in the 33rd minute. Graham Zusi settled the ball with his first touch before sending a centering feed that Nemeth headed home from in front of the net.
Caicedo secured his second tally of the game two minutes later after converting Tajon Buchanan's centering feed. New England doubled the advantage in the 42nd after Agudelo cleaned up a ricochet off Zusi and scored from the middle of the box.
