Porto's Juan Quintero could end Rennes loan, join Internacional

Porto's Colombian midfielder Juan Quintero could be set to end his loan spell at Rennes and join Brazilian side Internacional, according to the French club's coach.

Quintero, 23, was loaned out by Porto for the season but he has made only 12 appearances in Ligue 1 since linking up with Rennes.

The attacking midfielder is currently trying to help Colombia qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics at the expense of the United States.

The first game of their two-legged playoff takes place on Friday in Barranquilla before the second match in Frisco on March 29.

Speaking to RMC on Thursday, Rennes boss Rolland Courbis said that after those matches Quintero could head straight from Texas to Porto Alegre to join Internacional instead of returning to France.

"It could be decided in the next 24 hours," Courbis told the radio station. "We have seven matches left in the season. It's a loan deal with an option to buy and Rennes are not taking up that option.

"In his interest, it's better that he might be starting in Porto Alegre rather than not starting in Rennes."

Courbis said Quintero had had difficulty integrating at Rennes but that his progress had been held up by heel, calf and knee problems since moving to Brittany.

The former Pescara player, who has scored one league goal this season, could remain on loan at Internacional until December.
