Arsenal defender Calum Chambers joins Fulham on season-long loan

Premier League newcomer Fulham have signed Arsenal defender Calum Chambers on loan for the season.

The two clubs confirmed the deal on Tuesday, just weeks after Chambers signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal.

"I'm really excited. I watched a lot of Fulham last season, I really like the way they play football, there's a good manager, it's a great club, so I'm really excited for the season ahead," Chambers told the Fulham website.

"Everyone can see that Fulham's a club that likes to play football, play football from the back, through the lines. That's the style of football I like as well, so I think it fits me and suits the way I play."

Chambers joined the Gunners in 2014 in a deal worth up to £16 million but has never locked down a regular starting role at the Emirates. He has made 82 appearances in all competitions, and spent the 2016-17 season on loan at Middlesbrough.

"Calum is a talented defender who has a bright future," Arsenal head coach Unai Emery said. "We all believe this loan at Fulham will be an important part of his development and wish him a successful season."

Fulham, based in West London, have signed eight players in the close season, including Andre Schuerrle, Alfie Mawson and Jean Michael Seri, with striker Aleksandar Mitrovic making a loan move from Newcastle permanent.
