Tottenham close to signing Juan Foyth from Estudiantes - sources

Tottenham are close to a first signing of the summer in Estudiantes defender Juan Foyth, sources have told ESPN FC.

Spurs are the only Premier League club yet to complete a signing but they are confident of a deal after Estudiantes president Juan Sebastian Veron arrived in London for talks about the Argentina under-20 defender.

Veron, formerly of Manchester United and Chelsea, knows Mauricio Pochettino from their playing days with Argentina and he will discuss a deal with the Spurs manager and chairman Daniel Levy.

A source said Estudiantes were holding out for more than £15 million but Spurs have indicated they will not play more £10m for the 19-year-old, who can also play in midfield.

Last week, Foyth said of reported interest from Spurs: "That's something I read on social media, that my agent or Veron would be travelling or something like that I read ... but I haven't been told anything about that. I usually intend to speak with my agent when there is more concrete things."

Spurs are also tracking Celta Vigo midfielder Pape Diop, 19, but are yet to bid for the Spain U19 international, while they have slapped a not-for-sale tag on Eric Dier, amid interest from Manchester United for the England international.

The club continues talks with Manchester City for Kyle Walker, but say no deal is close, while they have been put off signing Ross Barkley by the Everton midfielder's wage demands.
