Sydney FC captain Alex Brosque says Steve Corica's appointment as coach was the reason why he decided to stay on this year. The 35-year-old striker will play his final A-League game before retirement in Sunday's grand final against Perth at Optus Stadium. Former player Corica, who was an assistant to former coach Graham Arnold, has steered the Blues to the FFA Cup final and A-League season decider in his first season. "He was the main reason I stayed this year because I knew he had this in him," Brosque said after Sydney's 6-1 semi-final demolition of Melbourne Victory on Sunday. "I think Arnie no doubt moulded the squad into an incredible group of men and what we did in the past years was incredible. "But I knew Bimbi (Corica) taking over, nothing would change, he'd keep everything going. "We lost some players but he'd recruit the right people that we needed and he's a guy that the guys love playing under. "I knew things would continue the way they have, so I'm really happy that in his first year, he gets us all the way to a grand final." Brosque said he didn't want the team to come all the way down from the high of Sunday's extraordinary win, but was certain they wouldn't get carried away with the result. "I think we need to take as much confidence as we can because we know it's going to be difficult next week," Brosque said. "We'll definitely keep grounded, this group of boys won't get ahead of themselves by no means, but I think we need to use what we did tonight to fuel us." Playing his first game in four weeks following a heel injury, Broqsue said he would have been happy to be substituted from around the 50th minute, but ended up playing the full match.. He got onto the scoresheet in his final Big Blue derby. "It's a team that I've probably struggled to score many goals against for whatever reason, but they are games that I've loved playing in," Brosque said. "They are always so tough, there's a lot of feeling and I think there's probably not too many games where you get to experience that."
