Ikonomidis out, Duke in for Socceroos

Mitch Duke could play his first match for the Socceroos in six years after getting a call up to replace Chris Ikonomidis.

Perth Glory premiership star Ikonomidis has been ruled out of coach Graham Arnold's experimental national squad to play South Korea in Busan on June 7 after scans revealed he needs shoulder surgery.

"Chris injured his shoulder earlier in the season and after seeing a specialist in Sydney this week it was decided surgery was required to improve the prospect of a full recovery," said Arnold.

"With the first round of World Cup qualifiers commencing in September and the A-League kicking off in October, now is the right time to address it," he said.

Western Sydney Wanderers striker Duke will be hoping to add to his four international caps, all picked up in 2013.

"Mitch has shown us what he is capable of since returning from Japan in January," said Arnold.

"He made a big impact at Western Sydney Wanderers, scoring four times in 10 appearances."
