West Ham fined £100,000 for crowd trouble trouble vs. Burnley

West Ham have been fined £100,000 by the Football Association after fans ran on the pitch to confront players during a home match against Burnley in March 2018.

The incident occurred in a match West Ham lost 3-0 and captain Mark Noble had to shove a man, who had made his way onto the pitch, to the ground.

West Ham avoided a stadium closure or points deduction following the ruling on Tuesday after the unsavoury scenes at the London Stadium last season. Fans entered the pitch and the directors' box, which included co-chairmen David Gold and David Sullivan, was also targeted.

"West Ham United FC has been fined £100,000 for failing to ensure that its spectators conducted themselves in an orderly fashion and that no spectators or unauthorised persons encroached onto the pitch during the Premier League match against Burnley FC on Saturday March 10, 2018," an FA statement read.

"The club denied the charge, but it was subsequently found proven, and was sanctioned by an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing on Friday."

As well as Noble, defender James Collins had to intervene when another two supporters came onto the pitch -- while Burnley invited children to sit on their bench as the atmosphere turned toxic in the stands.

The situation came to a head at the London Stadium just after West Ham had fallen 2-0 behind, with supporters chanting: "Sack the board."

A West Ham statement read: "Following the conclusion of the FA inquiry, we would like to reaffirm our sincere apologies for the scenes witnessed at our home game against Burnley almost a year ago.

"The club has done everything within its power to address the issues that occurred that day, despite having no control over matchday security operations -- a point which is accepted and reflected in the FA's findings."

The club also confirmed it had issued 23 banning orders as a result of the trouble.

West Ham are 10th in the Premier League table this season and face a London derby with AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup on Saturday.
