Powell leads way on both ends as Nicholls tops New Orleans

THIBODAUX, La. -- Jahvaughn Powell scored 22 points and Tevon Saddler scored 19 to lead Nicholls past New Orleans 78-64 on Saturday night for its seventh consecutive win.

The Colonels (20-9, 14-2 Southland) have won 12 of their last 13 and are having their best run in the Southland since 1998.

Nicholls led 36-32 at halftime and the Privateers emerged from halftime with a 7-3 run and tied it on Bryson Robinson's layup, and later, Damion Rosser layup gave New Orleans a brief 46-44 lead. Saddler made a pair of free throws to start an 18-5 run and the Colonels were up 62-51 after Powell's 3-pointer.

Powell added another 3 and the Colonels led by double figures the rest of the way. Powell made six 3s and tied a career-high eight steals.

Troy Green led New Orleans (14-14, 11-6) with 18 points, Bryson Robinson scored 13 and Makur Puou grabbed 10 rebounds.
