Akron slips past Kent State 67-65

AKRON, Ohio -- Daniel Utomi had 20 points and eight rebounds, Eric Parrish made a pair of free throws with three seconds left on Friday night and Akron closed the regular season with a 67-65 win over Kent State.

The Zips (15-16, 9-9 Mid-American Conference) held the Golden Flashes (13-17, 6-12) scoreless for the final 3:38 and scored five points, all at the foul line, during that time. Utomi split two pairs of free throws, the second making it 65-all with 1:43 left.

Kent State had the largest lead of the second half at 46-41 with 12:12 left. Adonis De La Rosa gave the Flashes a 65-62 lead at the 3:38 mark and they missed three shots and had two turnovers from there.

Parrish and Jimond Ivey added 11 points, and Malcolm Duvivier scored 10 for Akron.

Kevin Zabo led Kent State with 16 points. Jaylin Walker added 15 and Jalen Avery scored 10.
