Hayes sparks D-II William Jewell past UMKC 86-74

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Keith Hayes poured in 31 points, knocking down 5 of 7 3-pointers, and grabbed seven rebounds to help Division II William Jewell roll to an 86-74 victory over Missouri-Kansas City on Tuesday night.

Patrick Whelan and Byron Harp added 15 points apiece and Easton Koch scored 11 for the Cardinals, who turned 25 fouls against the Kangaroos (6-16) into a 29-for-34 night at the free-throw line.

Broderick Robinson topped UMKC with 14 points and seven boards, while Brandon McKissic scored 11. Aleer Leek, Xavier Bishop and Jordan Giles added 10 points each for the Kangaroos, who have dropped five of six.

William Jewell trailed 12-10 midway through the first half before Hayes hit back-to-back 3s, Whelan followed with two of his own, Hayes hit two more 3s and Harp added a trey and a jumper in a 23-0 run that left the Cardinals with a 33-12 lead. UMKC pulled within six by halftime and got within two on a couple of occasions early in the second half.
