Kennesaw State beats FGCU 97-93, ending 13-game win streak

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- James Scott and Nick Masterson each scored 27 points, Anthony Wilson calmly sank two free throws on his first trip to the line with 1.1 seconds on the clock and Kennesaw State defeated Florida Gulf Coast 97-93 Thursday night, ending the Eagles' 13-game win streak.

Kennesaw State (10-17, 6-6) pushed its own win streak to four games after starting the Atlantic Sun season 1-5. The Owls led by 15 midway through the second half before FGCU began to press, erasing the gap entirely and knotting the game 92-92 when Brandon Goodwin flew in on the fast break to dunk with 20 seconds left.

Kyle Clarke responded with a fast-break layup for Kennesaw State and FGCU only scored one more point the rest of the way. The Owls made 3 of 4 from the line in the last 1.8 seconds.

Scott was 10 of 22 from the floor with five 3-pointers, Masterson was 9 of 13 with three 3s. Jordan Jones added 11 points and Tyler Hooker 10. Kennesaw State had not beaten FGCU in 15 games.

Goodwin led the Eagles (20-9, 11-1) with 28 points on 10 of 13 shooting, Christian Terrell added 23 on 10 of 12 shooting -- FGCU scored 56 points in the paint -- and Zach Johnson added 16 points.

FGCU has already wrapped up its second straight A-Sun regular-season title and the No. 1 seed into the conference tournament Feb. 26.
