Adams' buzzer-beating trey gives Rice 79-76 OT win over FAU

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Ako Adams hit a 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer to give Rice a 79-76 victory over Florida Atlantic in a Conference USA battle Thursday night.

The victory is revenge for the Owls, who saw Justin Massey hit a buzzer-beater in Houston for a 63-62 FAU win earlier this season. The win is Rice's third straight in Boca Raton and snaps a six-game losing string.

Gerdarius Troutman drilled a 3 with :03 left to get Florida Atlantic even at 66-66 and force overtime.

Adams made a 3-pointer with 1:26 left in overtime to put Rice in front, 73-72, and Bishop Mency, Connor Cashaw and Adams each hit a free throw to keep the Owls in front until Massey made two free throws with :02 left to tie the game at 76-76.

Najja Hunter scored 23 points to pace Rice (6-22, 3-12). Cashaw added 16 points , grabbed 10 rebounds and dished seven assists. Adams, who hit 4 of 10 shots from distance, finished with 15 points.

Ronald Delph led FAU (11-16, 5-10) with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Jailyn Ingram added 16 points and eight rebounds, Troutman chipped in 15 points and Massey had 14.
