Lewis scores 40; James Madison beats Hofstra 104-99 in OT

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Matt Lewis scored a career-high 40 points including a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to force overtime as James Madison beat Colonial Athletic Association leader Hofstra, 104-99 on Saturday.

After Desure Buie made a pair of free throws to put Hofstra up 89-86, Lewis took the inbounds pass with 3.8 seconds to go, dribbled the floor then hit a 3-pointer from the wing to send it to overtime tied at 89. The Dukes outscored Hofstra 15-10 in the extra period.

The Dukes (13-16, 6-10 CAA) have won three of their last four games while Hofstra (23-6, 13-3) has lost two of its last three.

Lewis shot 6 for 9 on 3-pointers and went 12 for 12 from the line. He added seven rebounds and seven assists. Stuckey Mosley added 20 points and six rebounds for James Madison.

Justin Wright-Foreman made six 3-pointers and scored 33 points to lead the Pride. Eli Pemberton added 15 points. Tareq Coburn had 14 points and three blocks.

The Dukes evened the season series against the Pride with the win. Hofstra defeated James Madison 85-68 on Jan. 24. James Madison matches up against Elon at home on Thursday. Hofstra plays Drexel on the road on Thursday.
