Penn holds Columbia at bay for first Ivy League win

NEW YORK -- AJ Brodeur scored 24 points and Devon Goodman added 19 and Pennsylvania held on to beat Columbia 72-70 on Saturday night for its first league win this season.

Bryce Washington's 3 with 3:21 left gave the Quakers a 70-66 lead. Gabe Stefanini sandwiched a pair of layups between two free throws by Goodman and Penn (13-7, 1-3) led 72-70 with 58 seconds remaining.

The Quakers called two timeouts after Stefanini's last basket to set their offense, but Antonio Woods missed a tightly contested layup with 30 seconds left and the Lions grabbed the rebound. Columbia cleared out and put the ball in Stefanini's hands. From the left side he drove right and drew a screen. A Penn defender rotated to cover Stefanini, and though he got the defender off his feet with a ball fake, he was forced to fade away to get off a clean shot off which bounced off the rim.

Stefanini finished with 27 points and Quinton Adlesh scored 15 for Columbia (6-12, 1-3).
