Burks carries Marshall past North Texas 85-82

DENTON, Texas -- C.J. Burks scored 21 points as Marshall beat North Texas 85-82 on Sunday.

Jon Elmore added 20 points for the Thundering Herd. Elmore also had six rebounds for the Thundering Herd.

Taevion Kinsey had 19 points for Marshall (16-13, 9-7 Conference USA). Jarrod West added six rebounds.

Umoja Gibson had 21 points for the Mean Green (20-10, 8-9), whose losing streak reached six games. Jorden Duffy added 20 points. Michael Miller had 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists.

North Texas got within two points with 25 seconds left but Marshall went 3 of 6 from the line thereafter and that was enough to hold off the Mean Green.

The Thundering Herd evened the season series against the Mean Green with the win. North Texas defeated Marshall 78-51 on Feb. 7. Both teams face Florida International in their next game. Marshall heads home for its matchup against the Panthers on Wednesday, while North Texas visits Florida International on Saturday.
