Wichita State lands in Indiana

Undefeated Wichita State traveled to Indiana State on Wednesday, touching down hours before the Missouri Valley Conference showdown in Terre Haute after its flight was canceled due to weather in Indianapolis.

"Not ideal, but did it many times at Winthrop, just not flying this far," Shockers coach Gregg Marshall said after the team's flight landed. "We will see."

A Wichita State official said Tuesday night the fourth-ranked Shockers were on the tarmac before being told they wouldn't be able to land in Indianapolis.

The weather forecast was for snow overnight in the Indianapolis area.

The Shockers, one of two unbeaten teams along with No. 1 Syracuse, are scheduled to tip off against Indiana State at 8 p.m. ET (ESPN3) in what may be the last threat of a regular-season loss for Wichita State.

Wichita State (23-0, 10-0 MVC) beat Indiana State 68-58 on Jan. 18 in Wichita. Indiana State coach Greg Lansing said Tuesday on ESPNU that the Sycamores simply didn't play well in that game, were outrebounded and shot poorly. He said Indiana State has improved quite a bit since and that the players eagerly anticipate the rematch.

The Sycamores (17-5, 8-2) have won three of their past four games, including a win at Northern Iowa. With three others tied for third place at 5-5, Indiana State is the only team that realistically has a chance to catch the Shockers in the conference.

Traveling the day of a game is not rare. Louisville coach Rick Pitino prefers doing so when he can, and the Cardinals flew up and back on the day of their Jan. 18 win at Connecticut.
