Boston College has interviewed Ohio University's Jim Christian and he's in the mix to replace Steve Donahue, sources said.
Christian, 49, interviewed with BC earlier in the week. Sources said he has not yet been offered the job.
Another candidate that has emerged is Florida Gulf Coast head coach Joe Dooley, according to sources.
Dooley was a long-time assistant under Bill Self at Kansas and took over at FGCU after Andy Enfield left for USC a year ago. He went 22-13 this past season and went to the NIT. Dooley was also the head coach at East Carolina for four seasons early in his career.
At one point, Syracuse coach-in-waiting Mike Hopkins and St. Bonaventure coach Mark Schmidt were believed to be among the leading candidates for the position. However, sources said both are no longer under consideration.
Christian attended Boston University and was an assistant at Rhode Island in the mid 1980s.
He has been at Ohio University the past two seasons and has compiled a 49-21 mark in the MAC. Athletic director Brad Bates came to BC a year ago from Miami of Ohio, which is also in the MAC. However, sources said the connection may be with Christian and former South Carolina coach Eddie Fogler, who runs a search firm and has been advising Bates in the process.
Christian built his resume with Kent State after taking over for Stan Heath following a Sweet 16 run by the Golden Flashes. Christian was promoted from his assistant spot and went on to win at least 20 games in six consecutive seasons for Kent State, taking the program to the NCAA tournament in 2006 and '08.
He then left for TCU -- where he was 56-73 in four seasons.
BC parted ways with Donahue earlier this month.
