Liberty fires head coach Dale Layer

Liberty has parted ways with Dale Layer after six seasons, the school announced on Wednesday.

Layer, 56, was 74-89 in his first five seasons with the Flames -- and Liberty finished 8-24 overall and 2-16 in the Big South this past year. The Flames were knocked out of the Big South tourney by UNC-Asheville on Wednesday. Liberty won the conference tournament in 2013 despite going 6-10 in league play.

Layer was also the head coach at Colorado State from 2000 to 2007 -- where he compiled a 103-106 overall mark.
