Jeff Jones to undergo surgery for prostate cancer Monday

NORFOLK, Va. -- Old Dominion men's basketball coach Jeff Jones has prostate cancer and will undergo surgery on Monday.

Jones said in a release from the school that a checkup in late 2014 revealed that he had an elevated prostate-specific antigen level. He said he had follow-up tests during the season and that a biopsy in April confirmed the cancer.

The 54-year-old Jones will have the surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. He said he feels fortunate to have "caught this when we did" and hopes to return to his coaching duties soon.

Jones has been at ODU for two seasons. In 2014-15, he led the Monarchs to a 27-8 record and into the semifinals of the NIT.

In 23 years as a college coach, he has a 402-313 record with 11 postseason appearances.
