Prairie View coach Byron Rimm resigns after 1-18 start

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas -- Prairie View's Byron Rimm II has resigned with the Panthers off to a 1-18 start in his 10th season as head coach.

Rimm's resignation was announced by the school Wednesday. Assistant coach Byron Smith has been named the interim coach for the remainder of this season, starting with Saturday's game at Alabama A&M.

Rimm was a Prairie View assistant for the 2005-06 season before taking over as head coach. He had a 115-192 record with only two winning seasons, going 18-16 in 2008-09 and 16-14 the following season.

Since a Southwestern Athletic Conference victory over Southern on Jan. 4, the Panthers have lost their last five games. The last four losses have been by a combined 10 points, none of them by more than three points.
