UAB gives Robert Ehsan 5-year deal worth $450,000 annually

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- New UAB men's basketball coach Robert Ehsan has received a five-year contract worth at least $450,000 annually.

The University of Alabama System trustees compensation committee approved the deal Wednesday.

Ehsan spent the past four seasons as an assistant under Jerod Haase, who left to take over the Stanford program.

Haase was making $1 million annually under his six-year deal.

Ehsan would owe UAB $450,000 if he leaves for another job in his first two seasons, going down to $300,000 by his fourth year.

If he's fired without cause, UAB would owe him $400,000 for each year left on his contract.

The deal also includes performance bonuses, such as $25,000 each for winning the Conference USA regular season title and making the NCAA Tournament.
