San Diego State forward Zylan Cheatham transfers to Arizona State

Arizona State has landed San Diego State forward and local product Zylan Cheatham.

"It had a little bit to do with going back home," the 6-foot-9, 220-pound sophomore told ESPN after choosing the Sun Devils. "But it was more about the basketball situation and that Coach [Bobby] Hurley and I had the same vision for me and for the program."

Cheatham, who played his high school ball at South Mountain in Phoenix, decided to transfer prior to the announcement that San Diego State coach Steve Fisher was retiring. He averaged 9.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game this past season while playing primarily in the middle.

"I feel as though I'll get more freedom to show what I can do at Arizona State," Cheatham added. "I just felt as though it was the best spot for me. It just felt right."

Arizona State also added Cleveland State sophomore guard Rob Edwards this past weekend. The 6-foot-4 Edwards averaged 16.5 points per game and will also have to sit out this coming season.
