NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Lipscomb has hired Casey Alexander as the 18th head coach in the program's history, luring him away after spending the past two seasons at Stetson.

Athletic director Philip Hutcheson announced the hiring Saturday.

Alexander coached Stetson to an 11-7 finish in the Atlantic Sun this season, and he also is very familiar with Lipscomb after spending 16 years coaching with Rick Byrd at Belmont. He also played for the Belmont Bruins between 1992 and 1995 and was inducted into Belmont's Hall of Fame in 2005.

Byrd said in a statement that Alexander is as competitive as any player he ever coached and will be a great addition to Lipscomb.

Alexander says he's grateful to Lipscomb for giving him an opportunity to lead the program.
