Former Arkansas coach Mike Anderson has been hired as the next head coach for St. John's, the school announced. Anderson will be introduced at a 1 p.m. ET news conference Friday. He takes a job that proved difficult to fill after Chris Mullin stepped down earlier in the month.

Moser turns down St. John's, will stay at Loyola

Loyola-Chicago's Porter Moser has turned down an offer to coach the St. John's men's basketball team and will remain with the Ramblers, whom he led to the Final Four in 2018.

Mullin: 'Emotional decision' to leave St. John's

Chris Mullin, the greatest player in St. John's basketball history, has made the "extremely emotional decision" to step down as head coach. He was 59-73 over four seasons.

St. John's athletic director Mike Cragg made a public show of support for Chris Mullin amid rumblings that the Red Storm coach's relationship with administration had become rocky.

St. John's junior Shamorie Ponds says he hasn't made a decision yet on if he'll enter the NBA Draft. Chris Mullin said he'll make sure Ponds knows how NBA GMs think about him "straight from the horse's mouth" and if he's ready, Mullin won't try to convince him to stay. "He's had a huge impact on our program, our school, and on New York. People love him. He's the kid that stayed home. ... He's going to go down as one of the best players in St. John's history."
