Assuming Philadelphia is able to pull this off and keep Ben Simmons, Jimmy Butler, Tobias Harris and Joel Embiid together long term, the Sixers should be a threat in the East for years to come. The question now is how do the other contenders react? The Bucks have likely already made their big moves, while the Celtics have to wait until the offseason to make the swing they've been plotting for years -- trying to land Anthony Davis. That leaves the Raptors as the team most likely to counter with an aggressive move, and it won't be a surprise if Toronto does something significant between now and Thursday afternoon.

• The Boston Celtics traded guard Jabari Bird and cash to the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday, sources confirmed to ESPN. Atlanta is expected to waive Bird, a second-round pick in 2017 who has not played all season because of his involvement in a domestic violence incident in September.

• The New York Knicks are releasing center Enes Kanter, a league source told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Thursday. The Knicks had talked to teams about potential trades for the past several weeks, but Kanter's $18.6 million expiring contract proved too difficult to move at Thursday's deadline.

• The Philadelphia 76ers are trading point guard and 2017 No. 1 overall pick Markelle Fultz to the Orlando Magic, a league source told Wojnarowski. The Magic are sending Jonathon Simmons, a first-round pick and a second-round pick to the Sixers.

• The Memphis Grizzlies are keeping Mike Conley, league sources tell Wojnarowski. Memphis discussed deals with multiple teams but ultimately decided to hold onto their franchise point guard. The Grizzlies did trade guard Shelvin Mack to the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday, league sources told Wojnarowski.

• The LA Clippers are trading Mike Muscala to the Los Angeles Lakers for Michael Beasley and Ivica Zubac, league sources tell Wojnarowski. The deal opens a roster spot and gives the Lakers a chance to sign a player in the buyout market. Carmelo Anthony is expected to be among the considerations, league sources told Wojnarowski.

• The Sacramento Kings have traded Skal Labissiere to the Portland Trail Blazers for Caleb Swanigan, league sources told Wojnarowski.

• The Memphis Grizzlies are finalizing a trade to send center Marc Gasol to the Toronto Raptors, league sources told Wojnarowski. Toronto is planning to send Jonas Valanciunas, Delon Wright, CJ Miles and a 2024 second-round pick to the Grizzlies. In a separate deal, Memphis has also traded Garrett Temple and JaMychal Green to the LA Clippers for Avery Bradley, league sources told Wojnarowski.

• If Anthony Davis is not traded Thursday, he plans on playing out the remainder of the season in the lineup for the New Orleans Pelicans, a league source told ESPN's Dave McMenamin. "Every game," the source said.

• Opposing executives believe the Boston Celtics will be among the teams with interest in Enes Kanter if the Knicks big man parts ways with New York, according to Begley. Opposing executives also believe the Houston Rockets will have interest in the Knicks' Wesley Matthews if the veteran is bought out, according to Begley.

• The Denver Nuggets are among the teams to recently express interest in New York Knicks big man Noah Vonleh, sources told Begley. Vonleh, 23, will be a free agent this summer.

• The Houston Rockets have agreed to trade Nik Stauskas, Wade Baldwin IV and a second-round pick to the Indiana Pacers, league sources told Wojnarowski. Indiana will waive Stauskas and Baldwin, who had been acquired by Houston in Wednesday's three-team deal involving the Sacramento Kings and Cleveland Cavaliers.

• The Milwaukee Bucks have acquired Nikola Mirotic from the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Jason Smith, Stanley Johnson and multiple second-round picks, sources told ESPN's Zach Lowe and Wojnarowski.

• Nearly three hours from the NBA's trade deadline, the Lakers-Pelicans talks on Anthony Davis are dormant, league sources told Wojnarowski. There's been no communication, nor an expectation the two teams will even speak today. Pelicans seem content to run out the clock.

• There are still gaps needing to be bridged in Marc Gasol discussions between Memphis and Charlotte, league sources told Wojnarowski. Talks continued this morning.

Feb. 6 updates

• The Washington Wizards have agreed to send forward Markieff Morris to the New Orleans Pelicans for Wesley Johnson, league sources told Wojnarowski. The move drops the Wizards under the luxury tax threshold.

• The New Orleans Pelicans say there is no animosity toward Anthony Davis, as they continue to hold him out from action prior to Thursday's trade deadline. Head coach Alvin Gentry said before the Pelicans' 125-120 win over the Chicago Bulls, "He's a great kid. When he's been on the court, he's given us everything that he has. So no, I don't feel let down by him at all. Whatever happens is going to happen, and we'll go from there."

• The Sacramento Kings are trading Justin Jackson and Zach Randolph to the Dallas Mavericks for Harrison Barnes, league sources told Wojnarowski.

• The Los Angeles Lakers are running low on hope that the New Orleans Pelicans will engage them before Thursday's 3 p.m. ET trade deadline, league sources told Wojnarowski. New Orleans general manager Dell Demps has had no communication Wednesday with Lakers president Magic Johnson on L.A.'s most recent trade offer for Anthony Davis, the sources said.

• The Houston Rockets, Cleveland Cavaliers and Sacramento Kings have agreed to a three-team deal sending Iman Shumpert to Houston, league sources told Wojnarowski.

• The Toronto Raptors have traded guard Malachi Richardson, the draft rights to forward Emir Preldzic and draft considerations to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for cash considerations, the Raptors announced Wednesday.

• The Miami Heat have agreed to send guards Tyler Johnson and Wayne Ellington to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for forward Ryan Anderson, league sources told Wojnarowski. Agent Mark Bartelstein is working with the Suns to waive Ellington and allow him to join a playoff contender, league sources told Wojnarowski.

• With the trade deadline less than 24 hours away, the New Orleans Pelicans still haven't responded to the Los Angeles Lakers' most recent proposal for Anthony Davis, league sources told Wojnarowski. The Pelicans plan to sit Davis until Thursday's trade deadline passes.

Feb. 5 updates

• The Los Angeles Lakers have agreed in principle to trade guard Sviatoslav Mykhailiuk and a second-round draft pick to the Detroit Pistons for guard Reggie Bullock, a source confirmed to ESPN.

• The Los Angeles Lakers are still willing to engage with the New Orleans Pelicans on an Anthony Davis trade, but no longer want to bid against themselves, league sources told Wojnarowski. The Lakers are waiting for the Pelicans to make a counter-proposal.

• The Los Angeles Lakers continue to have a fondness for Washington Wizards forward Trevor Ariza, should the Wizards make him available at the deadline, according to report by ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

Feb. 4 updates

• The New Orleans Pelicans have been made aware of an extended list of teams beyond the Lakers and Knicks that All-Star center Anthony Davis would stay with long-term upon a trade, league sources told Wojnarowski. The list doesn't include the Boston Celtics, league sources said, but does contain the Los Angeles Lakers, LA Clippers, New York Knicks and Milwaukee Bucks.

• The Portland Trail Blazers have acquired Cleveland Cavaliers forward Rodney Hood for guards Nik Stauskas, Wade Baldwin IV and two future second-round picks, league sources told Wojnarowski.

Feb. 1 updates

• Prior to the start of the regular season, Kyrie Irving said that he planned on re-signing with the Boston Celtics this summer if the franchise wanted to retain him. On Friday, Irving was asked if his mindset regarding his decision to re-sign with the Celtics had shifted. "Ask me July 1," he said.

Jan. 31 update

• The Dallas Mavericks have agreed to a trade with the New York Knicks for All-Star forward Kristaps Porzingis, league sources told ESPN. Second-year point guard Dennis Smith Jr. is the centerpiece of the package being sent to New York, sources said. In addition, Wesley Matthews and DeAndre Jordan, who both have expiring contract, will go to the Knicks. Courtney Lee and Tim Hardaway Jr. are being dealt to the Mavericks as salary dumps.

• The New Orleans Pelicans plan to listen to offers on All-NBA center Anthony Davis but won't make a deal before next Thursday's NBA trade deadline unless they're offered an overwhelming package for the franchise's star, league sources told ESPN.

• Agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports has informed the New Orleans Pelicans that All-NBA forward Anthony Davis won't sign a contract extension and has requested a trade, Paul told ESPN on Monday morning.

Jan. 26 update

• Milwaukee Bucks center Thon Maker wants a trade from the Milwaukee Bucks, according to Wojnarowski. Maker, selected tenth overall by the Bucks in 2016, has not played in four games this month and has not played 20 minutes in a game since December 5. Maker is eligible to negotiate a rookie contract extension this offseason.

Jan. 24 update

• After not playing in Wednesday night's loss to the Houston Rockets, New York Knicks center Enes Kanter all but asked for a trade. "If you're going to play me here, play me," Kanter said. "If not, then just get me out of here."

Jan. 22 update

• The Memphis Grizzlies will begin listening to trade offers on franchise stars Marc Gasol and Mike Conley, league sources told Wojnarowski. The Grizzlies entered Tuesday in 14th place in the West, 6.5 games out of 8th. Both Gasol and Conley have played their entire NBA careers for the Grizzlies.
